Monitoring, Modelling and Forecasting of Mining Process Hazards
This special issue belongs to the section "Automation Control Systems".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
As mining engineering continues to advance toward greater depth, complexity and intelligence, increasing attention is being directed to the monitoring, modelling and forecasting of mining process hazards. One of the defining features of this field is a holistic system perspective that integrates multi-source information, reveals multi-field coupled disaster mechanisms and strengthens the capabilities for hazard identification, risk assessment, early warning and intelligent decision-making. These approaches are applicable not only to individual mining operations but also to multiple production units, entire mining systems and complex underground engineering environments.
This Special Issue on “Monitoring, Modelling and Forecasting of Mining Process Hazards” aims to present recent advances in the theories, methods and applications related to the monitoring, mechanism analysis, modelling, forecasting and prevention of hazards in mining and underground engineering systems. Particular emphasis will be placed on integrated approaches that combine multi-source sensing, multi-physics modelling, data-driven analysis and intelligent warning and control strategies to improve the safety, efficiency and resilience of mining and underground engineering operations.
Topics include, but are not limited to, the following areas:
- Microseismic monitoring and risk early warning in mining systems;
- Engineering safety risk identification and intelligent decision-making;
- Multi-field coupled disaster mechanisms in deep rock masses and intelligent warning methods;
- Hazard mechanisms, prevention and control in underground engineering under complex geological conditions;
- Safety of energy equipment under thermo-hydro-mechanical coupling conditions;
- Precise detection and intelligent prevention and control of coalbed methane dynamic hazards;
- Multi-source monitoring information fusion and hazard forecasting model development;
- Early warning, prevention and control systems for inherently safer underground engineering;
- Data-driven and physics-informed approaches for mining hazard assessment and prediction;
- Integrated technologies for disaster prevention, emergency response and safety management in mining processes
Overall, this Special Issue highlights the integration of monitoring, modelling, forecasting and control for mining process hazards, with the goal of advancing inherently safer, more efficient and more intelligent mining and underground engineering systems.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the Special Issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Processes is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
