Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The huge population growth and the corresponding requirement of food and goods have driven the agricultural and industrial production systems towards intensive and unsustainable practices, which are often caused by insufficient or inexisting planning, or by bouncing policies.

Raising the population’s awareness on these topics has placed sustainable development in the agenda of many nations, with the implementation of strategies and policies meant to lead to a more efficient use of resources (energy, water, minerals, land, etc.) and to the decarbonization of production and transportation systems.

This Special Issue will focus on publishing original research works about green processes contributing to sustainable development, including more efficient production processes in the agricultural, industrial, and energy sectors. The aim is to report on the state-of-the-art relevant research topics and identify the hot-spots and barriers, as well as the opportunities and challenges to be addressed.

Topics of interest for this Special Issue include, but are not limited to:

  • Carbon footprint reduction strategies for coal-fired power plants (excluding carbon capture and storage);
  • Decarbonizing production and recycling processes;
  • Designing nutrient recovery processes from waste(water) flows;
  • Designing processes for decarbonization of energy production;
  • Designing products for recycling;
  • Greening production processes;
  • Industrial symbiosis for CO2 mitigation;
  • Policy for sustainable production processes;
  • Reduction of process energy intensity (agricultural, industrial, and building);
  • Reduction of process materials’ intensity;
  • Other green technologies.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Processes is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
