Heat and Mass Transfer in Process Engineering: Modern Approaches
This special issue belongs to the section "Chemical Processes and Systems".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Heat and mass transfer optimization plays a critical role in different industries including food processing, pharmaceuticals, chemical reactors, and energy storage. With the shift in recent years toward Industry 4.0, modern computational tools and experimental techniques are transforming the way transport phenomena are studied and improved.
This Special Issue, "Heat and Mass Transfer in Process Engineering: Modern Approaches," seeks state-of-the-art research which address the challenges of coupled transport phenomena. We particularly encourage submitting the research that connects fundamental physical principles with practical engineering applications, particularly in systems where interfacial effects are significant.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Modern computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and multiphysics modeling
- Scientific Machine Learning and physics-informed neural networks for heat and mass transfer prediction and optimization
- Innovations in drying, encapsulation, membrane processes, and porous media flow
- Surfactant-assisted transport, wettability alteration, and interfacial heat and mass transfer
- Process intensification and energy-efficient thermal processing
- Novel experimental and validation techniques, such as PIV, thermal imaging, and advanced sensing methods, for complex flow systems
- Digital twins and data-driven process optimization
- Sustainable and green process engineering applications
We invite original research articles and comprehensive review papers that demonstrate how modern approaches solve challenges in heat and mass transfer.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Processes is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
