Polymer Coatings and Surface Engineering: Physicochemical Properties and Performance
This special issue belongs to the section "Polymer Physics and Theory".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Polymer coatings and surface engineering are core supporting technologies for modern advanced materials and industrial manufacturing. They play an irreplaceable role in optimizing material surface properties, protecting substrate materials, and realizing the functionalization of coating systems. With the rapid development of advanced manufacturing, new energy, aerospace, marine engineering and intelligent equipment industries, traditional polymer coatings are confronted with severe challenges such as extreme temperature, humidity corrosion and chemical medium erosion. Meanwhile, the growing demand for functional, intelligent, green and low-carbon advanced surface coatings has promoted continuous global technological innovation in this field. Exploring the physicochemical property evolution laws and regulating the macroscopic performance of polymer coatings is a cutting-edge research direction that integrates materials science, surface engineering and industrial engineering and possesses significant theoretical research value and practical engineering application prospects. This Special Issue aims to present and disseminate the latest research advances in the design modification, characterization testing and engineering application of high-performance polymer coatings and surface engineering technologies. We welcome high-quality original research articles and comprehensive review papers focusing on the correlation between the microstructure, physicochemical properties and practical service performance of polymer coating systems, as well as innovative surface modification technologies for various substrates.
Topics of interest for publication include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Design, synthesis and preparation of novel functional polymer coatings;
- Microstructure regulation and interfacial optimization of polymer coating systems;
- Characterization of physicochemical properties of polymer coatings, including wettability, adhesion, thermal stability, chemical resistance and other key performances;
- Tribological, anti-corrosion, anti-aging and comprehensive protective performances of polymer coatings under complex working conditions;
- Innovative surface engineering modification technologies for enhancing the performance of polymer coatings.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Polymers is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
