Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Biocompatible and biodegradable polymers are promising materials for tissue engineering applications. Through 3D printing, electrospinning, freeze drying, gas foaming, etc., mimicking extracellular matrix (ECM) structures can be produced to stimulate tissue regeneration physically. Biocompatible polymers are also regarded as excellent substrate loading with functional nanomaterials and biologically important polypeptides (such as growth factors) for the construction of multi-functional scaffolds. Multifunctional scaffolds hold potential to enhance cell attachment, cell proliferation, cell migration, cell elongation, cell differentiation, or expression of specific genes as excellent artificial scaffolds for tissue engineering.

The current issue aims to cover promising and novel research studies on developing functional or multifunctional polymeric scaffolds for tissue engineering. The key areas to be covered in this research topic may include but are not limited to:

  • Novel polymer synthesis and scaffolds fabrication processes;
  • Novel polymer scaffold development and modification processes;
  • Polymer scaffolds as medicine (including drugs and growth factors) carriers for tissue engineering;
  • Polymer scaffolds as substrates to enhance cell proliferation and cell differentiation for tissue engineering;
  • Conductive polymeric electrodes for tissue engineering;
  • Piezoelectric polymeric scaffolds for tissue engineering;
  • Influence and applications of biomaterials on tissue engineering.

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Polymers is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
