Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to announce the release of this Special Issue, ‘Polymer Thin Films: Performance and Applications’, following the success of the first edition.
Polymer thin films are a key class of materials widely applied in biomedical engineering, food packaging, electronics, optics, and advanced surface technologies. The first edition of this Special Issue highlighted both fundamental and application-oriented studies on polymer films, examining their preparation, modification, characterization, and performance under diverse conditions.
This second edition aims to collect recent advances in polymer thin films, with particular emphasis on structure–property relationships, functional performance, and innovative fabrication strategies. Original research articles and reviews addressing the physicochemical, mechanical, thermal, biological, and antimicrobial properties of polymer thin films, as well as their use in biomedical, packaging, wearable, optical, and sustainable applications, are welcome. Research areas may include, but not limited to, the following:
- Biodegradable polymer films for biomedical, packaging, and other applications;
- Preparation techniques of polymer thin films and coatings from different raw compounds;
- Physicochemical characterization and structure–property relationships, including thermomechanical, thermophysical, optical, electrical, and surface properties;
- Biological studies (in vitro and in vivo) of thin films;
- Microbiological activity studies of thin films as wound dressings, packages, and other applications;
- Stability, durability, and performance of thin polymer films under extreme or application-specific conditions.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Polymers is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
