Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Chitosan-based composites have emerged as a versatile class of biomaterials due to their biodegradability, biocompatibility, and tunable physicochemical properties. Recent advances in fabrication techniques, including electrospinning, 3D printing, and green synthesis, which have enabled the development of highly structured and functional composites tailored for diverse applications. These approaches provide enhanced control over porosity, mechanical performance, and surface chemistry, significantly expanding the design potential of chitosan-based materials.

Advanced characterization methods, such as spectroscopy, electron microscopy, and thermal analysis, play a crucial role in elucidating structure–property relationships. These techniques offer deeper insights into molecular interactions, crystallinity, and stability, thereby facilitating the rational design and optimization of composite systems.

Chitosan-based composites are increasingly applied in biomedical engineering, water treatment, food packaging, and agriculture. Their intrinsic antimicrobial activity, adsorption capacity, and ability to support cell growth make them promising candidates for sustainable and high-impact technologies.

This Special Issue aims to highlight recent progress, emerging challenges, and future perspectives, bridging the gap between fundamental research and practical applications of chitosan-based composite materials.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Polymers is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
