Advanced Polymeric Membranes for Filtration and Separation Technologies
This special issue belongs to the section "Polymer Membranes and Films".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Polymeric membranes are central to a wide range of separation technologies, enabling efficient, scalable, and sustainable processes in water purification, gas separation, energy production, and bioprocessing. Recent advances in polymer chemistry, nanostructured materials, and membrane‑fabrication strategies have opened new pathways to precisely tailor membrane structure, transport behavior, and selectivity. Innovations such as mixed‑matrix membranes, stimuli‑responsive polymers, biomimetic architectures, and membranes derived from sustainable or recyclable materials are driving significant improvements in performance and durability while reducing environmental impact.
This Special Issue aims to bring together cutting‑edge research that advances the design, characterization, and application of next‑generation polymeric membranes. Contributions may address fundamental mechanisms of mass transport, novel synthesis or fabrication techniques, computational and theoretical approaches for material design, or the integration of membranes into emerging separation processes. Studies focusing on antifouling strategies, enhanced chemical or thermal stability, or low‑energy separation solutions are also highly encouraged.
For this Special Issue, we welcome multidisciplinary perspectives from polymer science, materials engineering, and separation technology to highlight current trends, identify remaining technical challenges, and inspire innovative directions for high-performance, sustainable membrane-based separations.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the Special Issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Polymers is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
