Dear Colleagues,
The development of bio-based polymer composites has become an important research direction in response to the increasing demand for sustainable, high-performance and environmentally responsible materials. By combining renewable polymer matrices with natural fibers, biobased fillers, nanoparticles or functional additives, these materials offer promising alternatives to conventional petroleum-based composites while maintaining attractive mechanical, thermal, barrier and functional properties.
This Special Issue, “Bio-Based Polymer Composites: Applications, Characterization and Development”, aims to provide a platform for recent advances in the design, processing, characterization and application of bio-based polymer composites. We welcome original research articles, communications and review papers addressing fundamental and applied aspects of these materials, from material formulation to performance evaluation and end-use applications.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the development of bio-based polymer matrices; natural fiber- and biomass-derived reinforcements; polymer nanocomposites; surface modification and interfacial interactions; structure–property relationships; mechanical, thermal, morphological, rheological, barrier and biodegradation characterization; processing and manufacturing strategies; life cycle assessment, recycling and environmental impacts and applications in packaging, agriculture, biomedical materials, automotive components, construction, energy and environmental technologies.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Polymers is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
