Plant Photosynthetic Physiology and Ecology
This special issue belongs to the section "Crop Physiology and Crop Production".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Photosynthesis is the most fundamental process driving life on Earth, converting solar energy into chemical energy and shaping the composition of our atmosphere. This Special Issue, "Plant Photosynthetic Physiology and Ecology", will showcase cutting-edge research that bridges the intricate mechanisms of photosynthetic function and the broader ecological contexts in which plants operate.
We will explore the dynamic interplay within the physiological machinery of photosynthesis, from light harvesting and electron transport to carbon fixation and metabolic regulation, and the environmental forces that constrain and modulate its performance. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, adaptations to abiotic stresses (e.g., drought, heat, high light, and salinity); acclimation responses to changing climate variables; eco-physiological strategies across different biomes and plant functional types; canopy and ecosystem-level photosynthesis; interactions with other organisms (e.g., pollinators, herbivores, microbes); and the integration of photosynthetic traits into plant growth, resource use efficiency, and fitness.
We welcome contributions employing diverse approaches, from molecular biochemistry and biophysics to field-based ecophysiology and remote sensing. Our goal with this Special Issue is to foster an integrative understanding of how photosynthetic processes underpin plant survival, productivity, and ecological interactions in a rapidly changing world. By synthesizing knowledge across scales, this Special Issue will highlight key advancements and future directions for research on maintaining biodiversity, natural ecosystems, and agricultural productivity.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the Special Issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Plants is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
