Advances in Non-Invasive Drug Delivery Systems
This special issue belongs to the section "Drug Delivery and Controlled Release".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Non-invasive drug delivery systems have attracted considerable attention in recent years as an effective strategy to improve patient adherence, reduce administration-associated discomfort, and enhance therapeutic outcomes. Advances in pharmaceutical technology, biomaterials, nanotechnology, and formulation design have enabled the development of innovative delivery platforms that overcome biological barriers and facilitate drug absorption via oral, transdermal, transmucosal, pulmonary, nasal, ocular, and other non-invasive routes. These approaches are particularly relevant for the administration of poorly soluble compounds, biologics, nucleic acids, and other challenging therapeutic agents. However, despite significant progress, important challenges remain regarding formulation stability, drug permeation, targeting efficiency, controlled release, scalability, and regulatory approval. Addressing these issues requires interdisciplinary efforts involving pharmaceutical sciences, materials engineering, biotechnology, and clinical research. In this context, novel nanocarriers, responsive materials, advanced manufacturing technologies, and computational approaches have emerged as promising tools to improve the performance and translational potential of non-invasive drug delivery systems. This Special Issue aims to provide a comprehensive overview of recent advances in the design, characterization, and application of non-invasive drug delivery systems. We welcome original research articles, reviews, and communications focusing on formulation development, physicochemical and biopharmaceutical characterization, in vitro and in vivo evaluation, safety assessment, and clinical perspectives. Contributions addressing nanomedicine, nanoformulations, tissue engineering, and emerging technologies for non-invasive drug delivery are particularly encouraged. We look forward to receiving your valuable contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the Special Issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Pharmaceutics is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2900 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
