Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Exercise is one of the most powerful modulators of human metabolism, influencing skeletal muscle, adipose tissue and systemic energy homeostasis. Despite substantial progress in understanding exercise-induced metabolic adaptations, an integrative view connecting molecular mechanisms with clinical and functional outcomes—particularly across different population groups—remains limited.

We are pleased to invite you to contribute to this Special Issue, which brings together current research on the metabolic effects of exercise across the lifespan, with particular attention to older adults, women and adolescents, as well as clinical populations.

This Special Issue aims to provide a comprehensive platform for original research and reviews addressing the integrative metabolism of exercise, spanning molecular, physiological and clinical perspectives, and to advance understanding of how structured exercise interventions can be optimized for metabolic health across diverse age groups, sexes and life stages.

In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following: resistance exercise and metabolic adaptation; exercise-induced myokine responses; metabolic biomarkers in athletes; exercise interventions in metabolic disease; sports nutrition and metabolic regulation; exercise metabolism in older adults (sarcopenia and healthy aging); sex-specific metabolic responses to exercise in women and the metabolic effects of exercise during adolescence and growth.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Metabolites is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
