Plant Bioactives for Health and Technology: Extraction, Characterization, Biological Evaluation and Applications

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue focuses on the isolation, characterization, and biological evaluation of bioactive compounds derived from plants and plant-based materials. We welcome original research and reviews addressing innovative extraction technologies, green solvents and sustainable processing approaches, phytochemical profiling, metabolomics, and quality assessments of plant extracts.

Particular attention will be given to studies investigating the biological activities and mechanisms of action of plant-derived bioactive compounds in cell cultures, animal models, and clinical settings, including their potential roles in disease prevention and health promotion. Contributions pertaining to functional foods, nutraceuticals, and novel delivery systems are also encouraged.

In addition, this Special Issue seeks research on the sustainable valorization of agricultural and food-processing by-products as sources of valuable bioactive compounds. Studies exploring the application of plant extracts and phytochemicals in cosmetic, pharmaceutical, food, and other health-related products are also within the scope of this Special Issue, particularly when supported by chemical characterization and biological activity assessments.

Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Metabolites is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
