Latest Advances in Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery

Dear Colleagues,

Minimally invasive spine surgery (MISS) has rapidly evolved over recent decades, offering significant benefits in terms of reduced tissue trauma, faster recovery times, and improved postoperative outcomes. The implementation of emerging technologies such as augmented reality and robotics has opened up new possibilities to further optimize surgical results and increase patient safety. In addition, these technologies offer new ways of increasing the efficiency of surgical training and education.

This Special Issue will provide the latest research findings, as well as future directions, in MISS by highlighting both clinical applications and scientific developments. We invite original research articles and review papers that explore the following topics:

• Innovations in spinal surgical techniques and instrumentation;
• Clinical outcomes and comparative effectiveness studies;
• Imaging guidance and navigation systems in MISS;
• Patient selection criteria and perioperative management;
• Complication management and long-term follow-up;
• The integration of robotics, augmented reality, and AI into spine surgery.

We particularly welcome submissions that offer critical insights into clinical practices, emphasize evidence-based advancements, or address current controversies and limitations in the field of MISS. Submissions that highlight emerging technologies, long-term outcomes, and comparative studies, as well as interdisciplinary collaborations, are particularly encouraged.

Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process.
