Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

We warmly invite you to contribute to the Special Issue "New Advances in Optic Nerve Diseases: 2nd Edition", the first edition of which is available at https://www.mdpi.com/journal/jcm/special_issues/849R9SA152. This Special Issue combines original research and review papers with a focus on the recent advances in optic nerve diseases.

In recent years, the research and treatment of optic nerve diseases have made significant progress, bringing new hope for the diagnosis and treatment of blinding diseases such as glaucoma, optic neuritis, and ischemic optic neuropathy. This Special Issue focuses on the latest progress in the clinical diagnosis and treatment of optic nerve diseases, aiming to provide practical guidance for ophthalmologists and neurologists. The content covers, but is not limited to, early screening and therapeutic strategies for glaucoma (such as the clinical application of fundus photography combined with OCT), differential diagnosis and immunotherapy of optic neuritis (including the differences in the treatment of NMOSD and MOGAD-related optic neuritis), emergency treatment procedures for anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (AION), and genetic testing indications for hereditary optic neuropathy. Clinical experts are particularly invited to share the standardized regimen of glucocorticoid shock therapy, the selection of indications for optic nerve sheath decompression, and experience of evidence-based application of neuroprotective drugs.

Through the analysis of typical cases and the discussion of diagnosis and treatment standards, clinicians are able to improve the diagnosis and treatment level of optic nerve diseases. At the same time, combined with the application of real-world clinical data and artificial intelligence-assisted decision-making systems, such analysis provides ophthalmologists with practical new ideas for diagnosis and treatment, and optimizes the prognosis of patients' visual function.
