Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Cardiac electrophysiology is a subspecialty of cardiology focused on the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac arrhythmias and heart diseases with a predominantly arrhythmic phenotype.
Recently, major technological advances have expanded treatment options in cardiac electrophysiology. Electroporation-based ablation is a novel energy source with growing adoption and has demonstrated feasibility, efficacy, and safety in standard procedures. However, evidence regarding its use in more complex arrhythmias—such as persistent atrial fibrillation, atypical atrial flutter, and ventricular tachyarrhythmias—remains limited, and its clinical role requires further investigation, with outcomes to be established in comparison with traditional thermal ablation techniques.
Moreover, patients with heart failure are facing a new therapeutic horizon. Prognosis-improving pharmacological therapies are now being complemented by increasingly less invasive implantable cardiac pacing systems designed to preserve the native conduction system and restore physiological ventricular contractile synchrony. However, whether these technologies can outperform current cardiac resynchronization therapies remains to be demonstrated.
This Special Issue, “Clinical Advances in Cardiac Arrhythmias and Electrophysiology,” aims to invite original articles and reviews focused on emerging techniques for conduction system pacing, technologies for arrhythmic risk stratification, diagnosis and treatment of cardiac arrhythmias, and advanced interventional strategies, including electroanatomical mapping, endomyocardial biopsy, and electroporation-based ablation for atrial and ventricular tachyarrhythmias.
