Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The outcome of trauma care has improved markedly in recent decades. The introduction, implementation, and expansion of trauma systems, triage, and pre- and in-hospital trauma care, as well as the adoption of innovative surgical techniques, has resulted in improved survival of trauma patients worldwide. These changes have shifted priorities and treatment goals. As well as preventing mortality, we now focus on functional outcomes and quality of life. The cornerstone for further improvement of care lies in value-based healthcare concepts, research into long-term outcomes, and the adoption of PROMs. New developments, such as minimally invasive surgery techniques, navigation, robotics, big data research, and AI, will also find their way into trauma care. The current Special Issue invites submissions that link trauma care with innovation.
