Contemporary and Emerging Strategies for Cardiac Arrhythmia Management
This special issue belongs to the section "Cardiology".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Cardiac arrhythmias represent a major and growing clinical challenge, contributing substantially to morbidity, mortality, impaired quality of life, recurrent hospitalization, and healthcare expenditure worldwide. Population ageing, the increasing prevalence of structural heart disease and cardiometabolic disorders, and the expanding use of wearable and implantable monitoring technologies have led to more frequent recognition of both symptomatic and subclinical arrhythmias. At the same time, rapid advances in electrophysiology, cardiac imaging, device therapy, and digital medicine are transforming the diagnosis, risk stratification, and treatment of patients with rhythm disorders.
Contemporary arrhythmia management increasingly requires an individualized and multidisciplinary approach that integrates clinical characteristics, electrocardiographic findings, cardiac imaging, invasive electrophysiological assessment, biomarkers, and patient-reported outcomes. Innovations such as pulsed-field ablation, high-density electroanatomical mapping, conduction system pacing, leadless cardiac devices, remote monitoring, artificial intelligence, and wearable technologies offer important opportunities to improve procedural efficacy, safety, and long-term outcomes. Nevertheless, several uncertainties remain regarding optimal patient selection, comparative effectiveness, long-term safety, implementation in routine clinical practice, and management of complex or underrepresented patient populations.
This Special Issue aims to present and disseminate recent clinical, translational, and technological advances in the diagnosis and management of cardiac arrhythmias. We invite original research articles, systematic reviews, meta-analyses and narrative reviews that provide clinically relevant insights into established and emerging strategies for arrhythmia prevention, detection, risk stratification, treatment, and follow-up.
Topics of interest include but are not limited to:
- Contemporary management of atrial fibrillation and atrial tachyarrhythmias;
- Catheter ablation technologies, including pulsed-field, radiofrequency, and cryoballoon ablation;
- Ventricular arrhythmia mapping, ablation, and sudden cardiac death prevention;
- Cardiac implantable electronic devices, leadless pacing, and conduction system pacing;
- Cardiac resynchronization therapy and implantable cardioverter-defibrillator management;
- Wearable devices, remote monitoring, and detection of subclinical arrhythmias;
- Artificial intelligence and digital health applications in electrophysiology;
- Imaging, biomarkers, and precision medicine approaches to arrhythmia risk stratification;
- Pharmacological and hybrid strategies for rhythm and rate control;
- Arrhythmia management in heart failure, inherited syndromes, congenital heart disease, and other special populations;
- Procedural safety, complications, quality of life, healthcare utilization, and long-term clinical outcomes.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Journal of Clinical Medicine is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
