About Hydrology

Hydrology (ISSN 2306-5338) is an international, multi/interdisciplinary, open access, and peer-reviewed journal that focuses on hydrological sciences. The journal encompasses all aspects of hydrology: groundwater, surface water, soil water, and atmospheric water, as well as snow and ice. Papers advancing the quantitative, qualitative, ecological, and managerial aspects of hydrology are welcome. Particularly welcome are those papers that discuss such aspects’ interrelationships.

Research addressing issues in integrated water management, policy, and sociohydrology are also invited. We encourage colleagues to submit their original theoretical, field, experimental, and numerical studies as well as literature reviews, and especially look forward to multidisciplinary approaches and interdisciplinary topics that cross the typical boundaries of our science.

Themes encompassed in Hydrology include:

  • Surface water hydrology;
  • Groundwater hydrology;
  • Vadose zone hydrology;
  • Ecohydrology;
  • Hydrochemistry;
  • Hydroinformatics;
  • Hydrometeorology;
  • Isotope hydrology;
  • Water management;
  • Sociohydrology;
  • Water quality.

Examples of relevant cross-disciplinary subjects include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Hydraulics;
  • Geography;
  • Irrigation and drainage;
  • Environmental engineering;
  • Meteorology;
  • Ecology;
  • Geology;
  • Geophysics;
  • Geomorphology;
  • Cryosphere;
  • Climate;
  • Agriculture;
  • Forests;
  • Wetlands;
  • Limnology;
  • Oceanography;
  • Energy;
  • Biology;
  • Soil;
  • 3S techniques (RS, GIS, and GPS);
  • Economics;
  • Law;
  • Sociology;
  • History.

NOTE: Manuscripts dealing with all these cross-disciplinary subjects are welcomed, provided they clearly mark their relevance to and interaction with one or more hydrological themes, also highlighting the important role in Hydrology of the resulting approaches.
