World Telecommunication and Information Society Day— “Gender Equality in Digital Transformation”, 17 May 2025

World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD) 2025, which will be held on 17 May, marks 160 years since the founding of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the United Nation’s agency for digital technologies. WTISD is celebrated to raise awareness of the potential that the internet and other information and communications technologies (ICTs) can bring to societies and economies.
This year’s theme is focused on the promotion of gender equality in digital spaces to foster the equitable and inclusive use of telecommunications and ICTs. While global internet use is gradually moving toward gender parity, significant gaps persist, particularly in developing countries. Efforts to bridge the digital divide are essential to ensure the benefits of new technologies reach all.
In recognition of WTISD 2025, MDPI supports global efforts to promote equitable access to digital technologies. Through open access publishing, we invite you to explore selected articles, Special Issues, and journals that span fields such as computer science, engineering, and physical science, encouraging knowledge-sharing and collaboration with the aim of a more inclusive digital society.
