Renewable Energy-Integrated Power Systems and Techniques into High Voltage

Dear Colleagues,

The rapid global transition toward clean energy has intensified the need for resilient, efficient, and intelligent renewable energy-integrated power systems, particularly those operating at high voltages. As large-scale solar, wind, hydrogen-based generation, and battery storage systems increasingly feed into modern grids, they introduce new technical challenges involving insulation performance, switching transients, overvoltage protection, and system reliability. Smart grid-integrated high-voltage technologies are, therefore, becoming essential to support long-distance power transmission, strengthen grid stability, and ensure the seamless integration of distributed renewable resources.

This Special Issue explores advanced methods and technologies that enhance the performance and security of renewable-rich power networks. Key focus areas include smart grid and microgrid operation, high-voltage control techniques, electric vehicle charging impacts, hydrogen-based energy systems, and the emerging role of power electronics. In addition, the increased penetration of converter-based resources requires sophisticated approaches such as optimization algorithms, machine learning models, and AI-assisted diagnostics to support protection coordination, stability analysis, and predictive maintenance.

Battery technologies, including their modelling, degradation prediction, and high-voltage management, also play an integral role in enabling flexible, low-carbon energy solutions. With the growth of grid-scale storage, effective control, balancing, and high-voltage safety techniques are critical for system resilience.

This Special Issue encourages contributions that address these interdisciplinary challenges through innovative designs, data-driven tools, advanced control methods, and experimental validations. By combining expertise from electrical engineering, materials science, data analytics, and renewable technologies, this Special Issue will advance the development of robust smart grid-integrated high-voltage renewable power systems as the foundation of future sustainable energy networks.
