Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The Guest Editor is inviting submissions for a Special Issue of Energies on the subject area of "Design Optimization and Control of an Integrated Fuel Cell System". Undoubtedly, the energy sector is going through a major transformation. The emerging needs of diversifying the sources of production and of applying new types of energy vectors have led in the last decades to significant developments in the application of fuel cell systems as a new power source. Furthermore, there has been a shift from the “traditional” model of centrally based power generation and power delivery to dispersed users to a model where consumers become producers of energy (e.g., by using renewable energy), leading to the appearance of the term “prosumer” and to the increasing development of distributed power generation systems. In addition, new types of vehicle propulsion are emerging, changing the current status quo.

Fuel cell systems, using hydrogen or other fuels as energy vectors in applications such as transport and power generation and supply, have a significant role to play. In many cases, their operation is also combined with that of other systems based on different sources of energy, including renewable energy systems. Thus, means and methods aiming at the improved design, optimization, and control of fuel cell systems integrated in various applications are of paramount importance as a driving force for their wider deployment. Many aspects of this broad area could be examined and improved, such as the design of new materials and/or structures, energy and thermal management, operation control and optimization, integration and interaction with other power sources used in parallel, power-conditioning issues, etc.

We kindly invite you to submit your relevant work in the field of “Design Optimization and Control of an Integrated Fuel Cell System” for consideration for publication. This Special Issue represents an opportunity to gather papers on the most recent advances in this field, with application to both road and air transportation.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Energies is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
