Advances in Epitaxial Thin Films: Materials and Applications

This special issue belongs to the section “Thin Films“.

Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue focuses on the latest advancements in epitaxial thin films grown using chemical methods. Epitaxial growth refers to the deposition of a crystalline thin film with a well-defined crystallographic orientation on a substrate. Chemical methods, such as metal-organic decomposition, chemical vapor deposition, sol-gel, and other related techniques, offer precise control over film growth, composition, and properties.

Topics covered in this Special Issue may include, but are not limited to:

  1. Novel chemical methods for epitaxial thin film growth;
  2. Advances in controlling film orientation and crystallographic properties;
  3. Growth mechanisms and kinetics of epitaxial thin films;
  4. Characterization techniques for evaluating epitaxial film quality;
  5. Influence of growth parameters on film properties and performance;
  6. Epitaxial thin films for electronic and optoelectronic applications;
  7. Epitaxial thin films for energy storage and conversion;
  8. Epitaxial thin films for catalysis and sensing applications;
  9. Emerging materials and systems for epitaxial thin film growth;
  10. Challenges and future directions in epitaxial thin film research;
  11. Surface decoration with nanostructures.

This Special Issue aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the state of the art in epitaxial thin film growth using chemical methods, highlighting the latest research findings, technological advancements, and potential applications. Researchers and scientists working in the field of thin film deposition, materials science, and related disciplines are encouraged to contribute their original research articles, reviews, and perspectives to this Special Issue.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Coatings is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
