Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Catalytic coatings are at the forefront of innovation in various energy and environmental applications. They play a crucial role in improving the performance and durability of devices in fields such as water electrolysis, fuel cells, air purification, and industrial catalysis. The development of advanced catalytic coatings with tailored nanostructures, high active surface areas, and excellent chemical stability is essential for addressing current challenges in sustainability and energy conversion technologies.

We are pleased to invite you to contribute to this Special Issue entitled “Advanced Catalytic Coatings and Films for High-Performance Applications” in Coatings. This Special Issue aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the most recent advances in catalytic coatings, encompassing both fundamental research and applied studies. Contributions focusing on novel coating methods, structure–property relationships, performance optimization, and real-world applications are especially welcome.

This Special Issue aims to

  • Showcase recent developments in the synthesis and characterization of catalytic coatings;
  • Explore advanced techniques for coating deposition and functionalization;
  • Discuss application-driven design of coatings for energy, environmental, and industrial uses;
  • Provide insights into the durability, stability, and scalability of catalytic coatings.

Suggested themes and article types for submissions:

In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Electrocatalytic coatings for water splitting, fuel cells, and batteries;
  • Photocatalytic and environmental remediation coatings;
  • Surface engineering techniques for catalytic activity enhancement;
  • Coatings for sensors and chemical reactors;
  • Multilayer and composite catalytic coatings;
  • Nanostructured and bioinspired coatings;
  • Durability, corrosion resistance, and real-world performance testing.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Coatings is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
