Laser-Assisted Surface Modification and Coating Technologies
This special issue belongs to the section "High-Energy Beam Surface Engineering and Coatings".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Laser-assisted surface modification and coating technologies represent a vital branch of advanced manufacturing. As high-end equipment needs to achieve longer service life, higher reliability and stable operation under extreme working conditions, material surface failures caused by wear, corrosion, high temperature and other harsh environments have become increasingly prominent, posing a universal technical challenge for the global manufacturing industry. Leveraging the precise and controllable characteristics of laser energy, combined with cutting-edge technologies such as additive manufacturing and novel alloy materials, high-performance protective coatings and modified surface layers can be efficiently fabricated. This provides innovative solutions to key issues including surface protection, friction reduction and wear resistance of equipment components, and relevant research carries great academic significance and engineering application prospects.
This Special Issue aims to present and disseminate the latest research achievements and technological applications in the field of laser-assisted surface modification and coating technologies. We invite original research papers and review articles focusing on fundamental theories, process development, performance characterization and engineering practices within this research scope.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Laser processing and laser surface modification technologies;
- Laser additive manufacturing and coating fabrication processes;
- High-entropy-alloy-based coatings and functional coating materials;
- Friction and wear behaviors and mechanisms of coating materials;
- Surface protection technologies and performance evaluation of metallic materials;
- Novel hybrid laser modification processes and integrated technologies.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Coatings is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
