Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

In today's interconnected global economy, logistics and supply chain management serve as the critical backbone supporting commerce and our daily lives. However, modern supply chains face unprecedented challenges, including escalating complexities from globalization, the surge of e-commerce, heightened customer expectations for speed and transparency, and the urgent imperative for greater sustainability and resilience against disruptions. Addressing these challenges effectively requires the application of sophisticated system optimization methodologies.

This Special Issue aims to gather cutting-edge research and recent advances in the development and application of system optimization techniques to solve complex problems within logistics and supply chain management. We invite original research articles, comprehensive reviews, and innovative case studies that focus on the use of advanced analytical, computational, and data-driven methods to enhance efficiency, responsiveness, and sustainability.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Sustainable and Green Logistics: models for minimizing carbon footprint, closed-loop supply chains, and reverse logistics.
  • Supply Chain Resilience and Risk Management: optimization strategies for mitigating disruptions and building resilient supply networks.
  • AI and Machine Learning Applications: integration of machine learning, deep learning, and reinforcement learning for predictive and prescriptive analytics in supply chains.
  • Heuristic and Metaheuristic Algorithms: development of novel algorithms for solving large-scale, NP-hard logistics and supply chain problems.

This Special Issue will provide a platform for academics, researchers, and industry practitioners to share state-of-the-art developments and exchange valuable insights. We particularly encourage submissions that bridge the gap between theoretical models and real-world implementation, demonstrating tangible contributions to operational excellence, cost reduction, and the overall resilience of global supply chains and logistics.

We look forward to your valuable contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Applied System Innovation is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
