Cover Story: “Grating Pair Wavepacket Shaper for Crafting Spatiotemporal Optical Vortices with Arbitrary Tilt Angles” looks at how tilted vortices behave at great propagation distances, providing a theoretical investigation to set the desired tilt angle of a vortex at a specific distance. The spatial chirp at the spatial light modulator plane of the wavepacket shaper enables the encoding of a user-defined tilted vortex phase in space and time. Additionally, controlling several parameters in the optical system allows for the generation of spatiotemporal vortices at any desired angle. This work can provide a simple setup for future experiments in addition to providing a valuable theoretical basis for future research into using vortices with spatiotemporal tilt for free-space communications. View this paper
