Photonics published 21 papers in the Special Issue on Quantum Cascade Lasers—Advances and New Applications, edited by Photonics Editorial Board member, Prof. Dr. Manijeh Razeghi.
2017 Photonics was indexed in Scopus, starting from Volume 1.
2018 Photonics received its first CiteScore of 1.96 (2017 Scopus data).
2019 Photonics was covered by the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE—Web of Science).

The journal was divided into eight topical sections: Biophotonics and Biomedical Optics, Optical Communication and Network, Optoelectronics and Optical Materials, Lasers, Light Sources and Sensors, Optical Interaction Science, Quantum Photonics and Technologies, Data-Science Based Techniques in Photonics, New Applications Enabled by Photonics Technologies and Systems.

Prof. Dr. Sergio Fantini was nominated as Associate Editor by the Editor-in-Chief.
