Cover Story: A recent study has made progress in biodiesel production by implementing continuous column extraction. This method utilizes a deep eutectic solvent (DES) to extract glycerol from biodiesel made from waste cooking oils. A focal point of the study was the use of a laboratory Karr column, where variations in mixing intensities and DES to biodiesel mass ratios were explored. The efficiency of this process was influenced by the choice of plate material and geometry, with steel plates exhibiting superior results compared to PETG plates. This was further confirmed through contact angle measurements and an array of analytical techniques. The study's findings provide insights into biodiesel production, emphasizing the importance of process optimization in pursuing environmentally sustainable energy solutions. View this paper
