June 2020 - 24 articles

Cover Story: The research community is continuously developing innovative, selective, and efficient technologies to remove pollutants from water. This review provides an up-to-date overview of silver-nanoparticles-based materials suitable as optical sensors for water pollutants. The authors focus on the synthesis of silver nanoparticles, paying attention to the stabilizers and most-used ligands, and to the characterizations, properties, and applications as colorimetric sensors for water pollutants. The attention paid to inorganic water pollutants is focused on several heavy metal ions, due to their dangerous effects on human health. In addition, several systems based on silver nanoparticles employed as colorimetric sensors for pesticides in water are discussed. The aim is to provide to readers with a guide for this hot topic.
