Cover Story: Catheter ablation is a key therapeutic opportunity for patients suffering from focal atrial tachycardia. However, we have little updated information on how to perform catheter ablation of atrial tachycardia using the most recent technologies. In our multicenter study, enrolling 45 patients undergoing catheter ablation of atrial tachycardia using an electroanatomical mapping system, we demonstrate that the ablation index is the only procedural parameter linked to the long-term effectiveness of catheter ablation. The optimal maximum ablation index cutoff associated with procedural success is 461, while the best mean ablation index cutoff is 301. Our results suggest that lesion transmurality is an important determinant of procedural success for catheter ablation of atrial tachycardia, and that the use of novel technologies is key for improving patients’ outcomes.
