Cover Story: We have interviewed 36 financially secure individuals—people near or at retirement—and employers (in-depth interviews, with an interview script and audio recorded and fully transcribed). Our conclusions following grounded theory show that our sample of individuals mainly from the German labour market would be willing to continue working given the right circumstances, namely a recognition of their talent and inputs to the organisation. Our data coding revealed that these individuals would not be motivated by financial incentives but would be motivated to continue working, which could be of great importance to a resource-short society in many industries. The impact of a more emotionally stable and mature personality in addition to access to their skill set is seen to be very important from an employer point of view. View this paper
