Cover Story: Bioelectronic medicine has been hailed as a new type of medicine to treat/manage chronic diseases. Unlike pharmaceutical products in which pharmacological agents target the molecular/cell mechanism related to the targeted tissues/organs via systemic blood circulation, bioelectronic medicine aims to modulate the mechanism through electrical neuromodulation, using miniaturized implantable devices. This paper presents a miniaturized wireless implant that is applicable not only for GI dysmotility, but can also be used for diseases/injuries associated with the central/peripheral/autonomic nervous systems.
