Cover Story: With the increasing environmental impacts of transportation systems, electric vehicles (EV) are gaining increasing popularity. To increase the penetration of EVs in global transportation markets, effective EV charging systems need to be implemented and coordinated, to address concerns about driving range, energy availability, and charging convenience. Accordingly, fast, secure, and reliable communication networks are essential to address the communication requirements of EVs on-the-move. Advanced communication security techniques also need to be implemented to provide protection against illegitimate attacks. The utilization of secure and reliable vehicular communication networks helps to achieve efficient mobility-aware coordination and better energy management, which encourages large-scale adoption of EVs.
