Cover Story: We designed a more sensitive sensor for CEA detection based on the Fluorescent Resonance Energy Transfer (FRET) between Yb3+ high-level-doping upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs, energy donor) and polydopamine nanoparticles (PDA NPs, energy acceptor). This work employed Yb3+ high-level-doping UCNPs (i.e., NaYF4@NaYbF4:1%Tm@NaYF4) as the energy donor, which resulted in not only more than 10 times the upconversion luminescence intensity than that of the Yb3+ low-level-doping UCNPs (i.e., NaYF4@NaYF4:20%Yb,0.2%Tm@NaYF4) but also the ability to better overcome the influence of unfavorable factors, such as instrumental noise. The research results showed that the sensitivity of the sensor was largely promoted to 0.013 ng/mL in diluted fetal bovine serum and 0.0117 ng/mL in a HEPES buffer solution. View this paper
