Cover Story: This picture is taken from a molecular dynamics study of a water molecule that either scatters or sticks and then desorbs from a graphite surface [Markovic, N.; Poulsen, J. J. Phys Chem A, 112, 1701-1711 (2008)]. All 303 atoms were quantized using a Wigner distribution based on the so-called gradient sampling implementation of the Feynman–Kleinert effective frequency theory, described in this review. It was found that the sticking lifetimes of water molecules were markedly reduced by the quantization of the atoms, making them more energetic through the inclusion of quantum zero-point motion. View this paper
