Dear Colleagues,
Microorganisms engage in intraspecies cooperation, interspecies competition and cross-kingdom interactions via sophisticated chemical signaling networks, which govern their physiological behaviors, population dynamics and ecological functions. This Special Issue on “Chemical Signaling between Microorganisms” highlights fundamental investigations, mechanistic dissections and applied explorations of chemical signal transduction among microorganisms. We aim to address core scientific questions in microbial signaling, including the diversity and specificity of signal molecules, the spatiotemporal regulatory features of signal transduction, the adaptive strategies of signal communication across diverse microbial ecosystems and the artificial modulation of signaling pathways. By integrating basic and translational research, this issue will not only systematically elucidate the mechanisms underlying the generation, transmission, perception and regulation of intermicrobial chemical signals but also emphasize technological innovations and translational applications in this field. As the Guest Editor of this Special Issue, I cordially invite submissions of original research articles, comprehensive reviews and short communications that advance theoretical innovation and technological breakthroughs in microbial chemical signal transduction.

Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Microorganisms is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
