Advances in Neurovirology

Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Since the late 1890s, when rabies virus was first discovered to spread via neural networks, it has been appreciated that virus infections of the nervous system present specific challenges. This Special Issue of Viruses will present a diverse collection of contributions from leaders in the field of neurovirology. These comprehensive reviews and primary research articles will focus on the myriad disorders of the CNS caused by or associated with diverse viruses.  Each of these submissions will highlight advances in understanding mechanisms of neuropathogenesis and treatment of virus-mediated disorders or provide an update on emerging diseases of interest to the field of neurovirology. Specifically, this issue will include articles that explore arboviral infections of the CNS, continuing progress in understanding the CNS complications of HIV infection, viruses associated with autoimmune disorders affecting the CNS, persistent infections of the CNS, CNS implications of virus inflammation in the periphery, herpesvirus in the CNS, and emerging findings related to neurologic complications of the COVID-19 pandemic.
