Dear Colleagues,
The Special Issue entitled “Viral Epidemiology and Sexually Transmitted Infections in Socially Vulnerable Populations” aims to present recent research on any aspect of public health, viral dynamics and transmission patterns among socially and structurally vulnerable groups worldwide. These populations often face unique socio-environmental and socio-economic challenges that directly impact the spread, detection and management of infectious diseases.
While the Special Issue welcomes contributions from any region globally, particular attention will be given to studies conducted in the Brazilian Amazon, a region that presents complex socio-environmental conditions and healthcare disparities that profoundly influence infectious disease dynamics.
Some of its focal points include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Epidemiology and molecular characterization of HIV, HTLV-1/2, hepatitis viruses and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs);
- Dynamics of viral transmission and risk factors in socially vulnerable populations, including, but not limited to, indigenous communities, riverine and rural populations, migrants, people living in informal settlements and other underserved groups;
- Impact of socio-economic, cultural and environmental determinants on healthcare access, diagnosis and STI prevention in vulnerable populations across diverse settings, with special emphasis on the Brazilian Amazon and comparable regions.
Reviews, original research articles and communications are welcome.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Viruses is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
