Molecular Surveillance and New Diagnostic Tests for Leishmaniasis, 2nd Edition
This special issue belongs to the section "Vector-Borne Diseases".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
It is with great pleasure that we present the second edition of this Special Issue, “Molecular Surveillance and New Diagnostic Tests for Leishmaniasis,” dedicated to deepening scientific discussions and promoting advances in knowledge about leishmaniasis—a complex of neglected diseases caused by parasites of the Leishmania genus. In the previous edition, we highlighted the persistent challenges in diagnosing tegumentary and visceral leishmaniasis.
In this new edition, we broaden the focus to include the latest advances in the development and improvement of molecular diagnostic tests. We also emphasize the growing relevance of molecular surveillance, an essential tool for monitoring epidemiological trends, identifying new transmission cycles, and detecting emerging Leishmania variants associated with different clinical manifestations.
This second edition brings together original articles, reviews, mini-reviews, case reports, and short communications that reflect the ongoing efforts of the scientific community to overcome technological and operational barriers, contributing to more accessible diagnostics and to the consolidation of molecular surveillance as a fundamental pillar in confronting the disease.
We hope that this edition of our Special Issue strengthens the dialogue among researchers, health professionals, and institutions, encouraging new initiatives and supporting collective progress in combating leishmaniasis

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Tropical Medicine and Infectious Disease is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
