Environmental Chemical Exposures and Metabolic Disorders: Integrating Evidence for Risk Assessment and Mechanistic Insights
This special issue belongs to the section "Exposome Analysis and Risk Assessment".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Environmental chemical exposures are increasingly recognized as important contributors to metabolic health, though understanding their effects on health requires evidence connecting exposure assessment, epidemiology studies, and mechanistic investigation. Emerging New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) and innovative analytical frameworks are creating new opportunities to improve hazard identification, mechanistic understanding, and human health risk assessment. This Special Issue aims to collate multidisciplinary research examining the metabolic effects of environmental chemicals and to promote the integration of evidence across human populations, animal models, in vitro systems, and computational approaches.
Research of interest includes studies investigating the relationships between environmental chemical exposures and metabolic health as well as the underlying molecular and biological mechanisms. We particularly welcome research applying NAMs and other innovative strategies, together with multiomics, exposomics, artificial intelligence, and advanced computational approaches, to improve exposure characterization, mechanistic investigation, and risk assessment. Submissions of studies addressing chemical mixtures, critical windows of exposure, susceptible populations, evidence integration, causal inference, and quantitative risk assessment are also encouraged. Through integrating evidence across disciplines and methodological approaches, this Special Issue seeks to advance a more comprehensive and mechanistically informed understanding of environmentally related metabolic disorders and support evidence-based strategies for chemical risk assessment and prevention.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Toxics is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
