Sustainable Consumption and Management of Energy Resources

Dear Colleagues,

In line with Paris Agreement commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the sustainable development movement advocated a shift towards more holistic consumption and management practices. Undoubtedly, if the sustainability goals of international treaties are to be achieved, then the unprecedented challenges triggered by the Covid-19 pandemic will need to be confronted. In the wake of the pandemic’s impact on the global economy, prior models of sustainability must be re-evaluated and adapted in response to these unprecedented challenges.  The main concept is to achieve the rational use of energy resources while ensuring that economic units are able to satisfy their needs. Consumers have had to reassess their needs and industries re-evaluate their business plans due to the pandemic. Within this context, redefining the energy consumption needs of economic units has had both a positive and negative impact. Household energy patterns have altered, and industrial energy demand has shifted. The higher goal is to propose a sustainable energy plan that will contribute to human well-being in times of a pandemic. The importance of this study is to enlighten energy sustainability in terms of both consumption and management practices. Therefore, the aim of this Special Issue is to attract researchers and practitioners from different disciplines in order to consider the concept of sustainability in terms of the management and consumption of energy resources. Authors are invited to submit their original/peer-reviewed research and case studies that address the following topics:

1. Clean energy and SMEs;
2. Industrial energy management towards sustainability;
3. Circular economy and energy consumption;
4. Sustainable consumption and renewables;
5. Green mobility practices;
6. Sustainable transportation and supply chain management;
7. Energy efficiency and smart cities;
8. Energy poverty/energy communities;
9. Technical and economic evaluation and optimization of energy systems;
10. Implementation of optimization tools (mathematical programming) in energy systems;
11. IT and energy policy applications;
12. Public policies for sustainable energy management.

For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
