Intelligent Sensor-Enhanced Systems for Cybersecurity and Attack Detection
This special issue belongs to the section "Intelligent Sensors".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
In this digital century, sensors have become an essential part of our modern society. They are largely employed in self-driving cars to help them stay on the road and in making industrial monitoring possible. Every day, we must make decisions by trusting the data of these sensors. However, since we rely on them so much, sensors have become a major target for unwanted users and malicious activities. It is not enough to just protect a system’s internet connection anymore; we must protect the sensors themselves. On the other hand, we are getting more involved in Edge Intelligence, meaning smart devices process information right where they are instead of sending everything to one big center. This is why we cannot just worry about security as an afterthought. Sensors now need to be able to defend themselves. To do this, sensors need built-in trust and where artificial intelligence (AI) can help to distinguish natural failures or attacks. This research direction is very important because it helps achieve a safer world for everyone.
This Special Issue aims to share the newest ideas for keeping these smart sensors safe. We want to combine traditional computer security with new ways to protect physical systems. We are looking for research on how to build stronger, smarter sensor networks that can stand up to high-tech threats of the digital century.
The topics include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Intelligent Attack Detection: Machine learning and deep learning models for real-time anomaly detection in high-dimensional sensor data.
- Explainable AI (XAI) for Security: Using logic-based AI to provide transparent and trustworthy security decisions in automated systems.
- Hardware-Rooted Trust: Implementation of Physical Unclonable Functions (PUFs), cryptographic sensors, and secure hardware architectures.
- Physical-Layer and Signal Security: Protection against signal spoofing, jamming, and unauthorized localization or tracking.
- Secure Data Fusion and Distributed Systems: Protecting the integrity of information in multi-sensor environments and high-performance distributed computing.
- Resilience in Critical Infrastructure: Case studies and architectures for securing Industrial IoT (IIoT), Smart Cities, and "Smart Grid" sensor suites.
- Healthcare and Wearable Security: Securing sensitive data in medical sensor networks and digital health monitoring systems.
- Blockchain for Decentralized Sensing: Using distributed ledgers to ensure data integrity and identity management in large-scale sensor deployments.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the Special Issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sensors is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
