Optical Sensing and Precision Metrology
This special issue belongs to the section "Optical Interaction Science".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
We are excited to announce the Special Issue titled "Optical Sensing and Precision Metrology" in the journal Photonics, with a submission deadline of December 31, 2026. This Special Issue aims to showcase the latest advancements in optical sensing technologies and their applications, particularly those leveraging light–matter interactions to enhance sensing capabilities across a variety of scientific and engineering fields.
Background and Aims:
Light-based sensing techniques are at the forefront of scientific research and technological innovation, offering unique advantages in terms of sensitivity, non-invasive measurements, and miniaturization. The Special Issue will cover a broad range of topics related to the application of light for sensing, including, but not limited to, the following:
- Lab-on-a-chip devices
- Laser gas spectroscopy
- Optical sensors and their integration into advanced systems
- Light–matter interactions in sensing technologies
- Emerging materials and novel sensor designs
We welcome contributions from researchers and practitioners who are advancing the field of optical sensing, and encourage submissions that address both fundamental theories and practical applications. Through this Special Issue, we aim to foster interdisciplinary discussions and promote collaborations across the optics, materials science, environmental monitoring, and biotechnology communities.
If you are interested in contributing, please submit your manuscript by the deadline. The Editorial Office will support the submission and review process, and we will ensure that all accepted papers undergo rigorous peer review. Further details on the submission process will be provided in the near future.
We look forward to your contributions and to the successful development of this Special Issue.
Best regards,

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the Special Issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Photonics is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
