Low-Dimensional Materials for Optoelectronic and Photonic Fundamentals and Applications
This special issue belongs to the section "Optoelectronics and Optical Materials".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Low-dimensional materials have emerged as a research hotspot in optoelectronic and photonic fields thanks to their unique optical, electronic, and nonlinear properties that are distinct from bulk materials. This Special Issue focuses on the fundamentals and practical applications of low-dimensional materials in optoelectronics and photonics, aiming to gather cutting-edge research achievements and promote academic exchanges.
Key research directions closely intertwined with the theme of this special topic include ultrafast fiber lasers, two-dimensional (2D) material-based saturable absorbers, nonlinear optical phenomena, as well as III-nitrides, low-dimensional quantum structures, deep ultraviolet light sources, and light-emitting diodes (LEDs). 2D materials, as high-performance saturable absorbers, have significantly advanced the development of ultrafast fiber lasers, enabling the efficient generation of ultra-short pulses, while their nonlinear optical responses provide new approaches to optimize laser performance. Meanwhile, III-nitrides and low-dimensional quantum structures serve as core building blocks for deep ultraviolet light sources and LEDs, driving innovations in optoelectronic device miniaturization and performance enhancement.
This Special Issue will cover the latest progress in low-dimensional materials’ design, fabrication, and optoelectronic/photonic applications, with a focus on the integration of 2D materials with ultrafast fiber lasers and nonlinear optics, as well as the advancement of III-nitrides, low-dimensional quantum structures, deep ultraviolet light sources, and LEDs. It strives to build a high-level platform for researchers to share innovations and promote the coordinated development of related fields.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the Special Issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Photonics is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
