Advances in Spectroscopic Imaging: Science and Technology
This special issue belongs to the section "Data-Science Based Techniques in Photonics".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Spectral imaging technology has become an important analytical tool in modern scientific research and industrial production. With the development of laser technology, photodetectors, artificial intelligence, and micro-nano manufacturing technology, spectral imaging technology is evolving toward higher sensitivity, faster detection, online monitoring, and greater intelligence. As an interdisciplinary technology that integrates knowledge from optics, imaging science, information processing, artificial intelligence, and applications, new methods and devices are constantly emerging. Bringing together advancements in principles, technologies, and applications helps to summarize key technological breakthroughs and evolutionary patterns, and to identify current research hot-spots and future development trends.
We are pleased to invite you to submit your work to a Special Issue of Photonics focused on Advances in Spectroscopic Imaging: Science and Technology. Spectral imaging technology is crucial for future intelligent sensing. The transformative impact of spectral imaging on production and daily life is based on research in many areas, including its fundamental scientific principles, technological transformation capabilities, and adaptability to various application scenarios.
This Special Issue aims to showcase innovative work at the intersection of new principles, new designs, and new data analysis methods in the field of spectral imaging and advanced spectroscopy. Our goal is to highlight recent advances and innovative approaches, encompassing both theoretical and technological innovations as well as applications in industry and daily life. Spectral imaging is an interdisciplinary field that integrates physics, engineering, computer science, artificial intelligence, and many other areas. We hope that through this Special Issue, using optics and photonics as bridges and spectral imaging technology as a medium, we can provide a platform for the interdisciplinary integration of science and technology.
We welcome original research articles and reviews on a range of topics, including but not limited to the following:
- Fundamentals of Spectroscopy and the Principles and Methods of Spectroscopic Techniques
- Design and optimization of imaging systems (including but not limited to push-broom imaging, whisk-broom imaging, tunable filter imaging, computed tomography imaging spectrometer, coded aperture snapshot spectral imaging, etc.)
- Spectral data structure
- Artificial intelligence and spectral analysis
- Hyperspectral remote sensing and microscopic imaging technology
- Advanced spectral detection and intelligent sensing applications
We look forward to receiving your contributions to this Special Issue, which aims to bring together a comprehensive collection of advanced spectroscopy and spectral imaging works.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Photonics is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
