Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Recently, hollow-core fibers have attracted significant interest due to their low loss, low nonlinearity, and numerous other advantages over conventional solid-core fibers—benefits derived from their unique structure, which guides light through an air-filled core. The latest reported hollow-core fibers have achieved transmission losses <0.1 dB/km over distances exceeding tens of kilometers. These advancements underscore their strong potential for both scientific research and practical applications.
We can announce a Special Issue entitled "Hollow-Core Fiber Technology: From Fabrication to Application", highlighting recent progress in all areas of hollow-core fiber research and development. We welcome the submission of original research papers and review articles that present cutting-edge advances, technical breakthroughs, experimental demonstrations, and real-world applications. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Novel designs of HCFs;
- Low-loss HCF fabrications across all wavelengths;
- HCFs made of soft glasses and polymers;
- Interconnection between HCFs and traditional solid-core fibers;
- Characterization and properties of HCFs;
- Hollow-core fiber-based components;
- HCFs for high-power delivery systems;
- Applications of HCFs in gas lasers and gas sensing;
- Nonlinear effects in HCFs;
- Microwave photonics utilizing HCFs;
- HCFs in optical networks;
- HCFs in quantum mechanical research;
- Emerging applications demonstrated with HCFs.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Photonics is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
