Recent Advances in Analysis of Metal Rolling Processes
This special issue belongs to the section “Computation and Simulation on Metals“.
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The analysis of metal rolling processes involves the integration of mechanics, materials science, thermodynamics, numerical simulation, and advanced measurement technologies to reveal the fundamental mechanisms of plastic deformation, heat transfer, microstructural evolution, and defect formation during rolling. In-depth process analysis enables the optimization of process parameters, the design of high-efficiency rolling equipment, and the prediction and control of product quality. Moreover, with the rapid development of digital manufacturing, artificial intelligence, and big data analytics, the analysis of metal rolling processes is entering a new era of intelligence and precision, which is crucial for promoting the transformation and upgrading of the metal processing industry, improving resource utilization efficiency, and achieving sustainable development goals.
We are pleased to invite you to contribute your latest research findings and reviews to this Special Issue titled “Recent Advances in Analysis of Metal Rolling Processes”. This issue aims to serve as a high-quality academic platform on which researchers, engineers, and practitioners worldwide may exchange innovative ideas, share cutting-edge technologies, and discuss current challenges and future trends in the analysis of metal rolling processes.
This Special Issue aims to systematically showcase the latest advances in the theoretical, numerical, and experimental analysis of metal rolling processes, covering a wide range of topics from fundamental mechanism research to industrial application practice. Its primary objectives are to (1) summarize state-of-the-art progress in key technologies for rolling process analysis, such as advanced numerical simulation methods, measurement techniques, and intelligent optimization algorithms; (2) highlight innovative research on the deformation behavior, microstructural evolution, and control of metals during rolling, especially for new materials and complex rolling processes; (3) promote the integration of multi-disciplinary theories and technologies in rolling process analysis, such as the combination of mechanics and materials science, and the application of artificial intelligence in process prediction and optimization; (4) provide guidance for the industrial application of advanced rolling process analysis technologies, contributing to improvement in product quality, production efficiency, and sustainability in the metal processing industry.
Topics of interest include the following: fundamental mechanisms of plastic deformation in metal rolling (e.g., stress–strain distribution, texture evolution, dynamic recrystallization, and phase transformation); advanced numerical simulation techniques for rolling process analysis (e.g., finite element method (FEM), molecular dynamics (MD), and multi-scale simulation); and intelligent analysis and optimization of rolling processes (e.g., machine learning, deep learning, and big data analytics for process prediction, parameter optimization, and quality control).

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Metals is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
