This special issue belongs to the section "Electromechanical Energy Conversion Systems".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The growing demand for efficient, reliable, flexible, and sustainable energy systems has accelerated the development of advanced technologies for power generation and energy conversion. Recent advances in mechanical systems, renewable energy technologies, electric machines, energy storage, intelligent control, and digitalization are creating new opportunities to improve the performance, reliability, and sustainability of modern power generation systems.
This Special Issue, entitled “Advanced Mechanical Technologies for Power Generation and Energy Conversion”, aims to provide a platform for researchers, engineers, and practitioners to present recent developments, innovative methodologies, and emerging technologies in power generation and energy conversion. The Special Issue welcomes contributions addressing the design, modeling, simulation, optimization, control, operation, monitoring, and experimental validation of advanced power generation and energy conversion systems.
Particular attention is given to innovative technologies that enhance energy efficiency, system reliability, operational flexibility, economic viability, and environmental performance. Contributions integrating advanced computational methods, artificial intelligence, machine learning, digital technologies, and optimization techniques into power generation and energy conversion systems are also encouraged.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Advanced power generation systems and energy conversion technologies;
- Renewable energy conversion systems, including wind, solar, hydro, and marine energy;
- Advanced turbines, generators, turbomachinery, and mechanical power conversion systems;
- Electric machines and electromechanical energy conversion;
- Hybrid renewable energy systems and integrated power generation technologies;
- Thermal energy conversion, cogeneration, and waste-heat recovery;
- Energy storage systems and their integration with power generation technologies;
- Power-to-X technologies and emerging energy conversion pathways;
- Modeling, simulation, optimization, and control of power generation systems;
- Artificial intelligence and machine learning for energy conversion and power generation;
- Intelligent monitoring, fault diagnosis, condition monitoring, and predictive maintenance;
- Digital twins, digitalization, and smart technologies for power generation systems;
- Energy efficiency enhancement and performance optimization;
- Reliability, resilience, and lifecycle assessment of power generation systems;
- Techno-economic and environmental assessment of advanced energy technologies;
- Innovative technologies for low-carbon and sustainable power generation;
- Experimental investigations, prototypes, and industrial applications of advanced energy systems.
Both theoretical and experimental studies, as well as high-quality numerical, computational, and system-level investigations, are welcome. Interdisciplinary contributions combining mechanical engineering, energy systems, electrical engineering, renewable energy, control, artificial intelligence, and related fields are particularly encouraged.
This Special Issue seeks to bring together cutting-edge research and practical developments that contribute to the next generation of efficient, intelligent, reliable, and sustainable power generation and energy conversion technologies.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Machines is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
