Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue brings together recent advances in dental biomaterials with direct relevance to prosthodontic practice. It focuses on how material composition and structure influence biological behavior and long-term clinical performance. Emphasis is placed on contemporary restorative and prosthodontic materials—including ceramics, polymers, resin-based composites, and hybrid systems—used in fixed, removable, and implant-supported prostheses.

A key objective of this Special Issue is to explore the relationships between structure, properties, and function that determine mechanical reliability, optical quality, biocompatibility, and durability under clinically realistic conditions. Special attention is given to interactions at the material–tissue and material–interface levels, such as adhesion and bonding stability, surface bioactivity, aging and degradation processes, and failure mechanisms that influence long-term clinical outcomes.

The Special Issue also highlights the growing role of advanced manufacturing and surface modification approaches, including CAD/CAM technologies, additive manufacturing, and surface functionalization. Contributions that link processing methods and digital workflows to material performance and biological response are particularly encouraged.

Original research articles, systematic and narrative reviews, and clinically oriented studies with a strong focus on biomaterials science are welcome. Overall, this Special Issue aims to provide an up-to-date, evidence-based resource for both researchers and clinicians, illustrating how advances in dental biomaterials and manufacturing technologies can enhance the predictability, longevity, and biological integration of modern prosthodontic treatments.

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process.
